Priority dental treatment introduced

A shortage of government contracted dentists has forced the Department of Health to reduce the level of service it provides for patients.

A net loss of four salaried practitioners in as many months has stretched resources to the point where priority is now being given to people who actually need treatment.

While efforts continue to fill the vacant positions, patients with generally good teeth will have to wait longer between routine check-ups.

However, service manager at the Dental Department Carolyn Lewis doesn't expect dental health on the Island to suffer as a result of the measures:
