31-year-old pushed woman and punched her in the face
A Douglas man has been given probation and a two-year restraining order after admitting assaulting a woman.
Diogo Miguel Monteiro Ramos appeared at Douglas Courthouse for sentencing, having previously pleaded guilty to the charge.
The court heard Ramos had come home after drinking with friends, and began swearing at the woman before throwing items around and breaking at TV.
The 31-year-old grabbed the woman and threw her onto a sofa, striking her on the arms before pushing her onto a bed and punching her in the face, resulting in a nose bleed, eye injury and bruising.
The prosecuting advocate revealed Ramos had written a letter of apology to the woman, but that she did not want to read it, and asked the court to impose a restraining order.
Ramos's defence advocate highlighted that the incident was a one-off, and that he is remorseful.
As well as the restraining order, magistrates handed him an 18-month probation order, ordered him to pay £500 in compensation and a further £500 in prosecution costs.
