Probation for man who admitted possessing cannabis

24-year-old also pleaded guilty to obstructing drugs search

A Douglas man who tried to flee police took only one step before being grabbed by officers.

Twenty-four-year-old Tyler Jack Snape, of Willaston Crescent, appeared at Douglas Courthouse where he pleaded guilty to obstructing a drugs search and possessing cannabis.

The court heard police were on patrol in Douglas, on 17 March, when they smelled cannabis in Villiers Square.

Officers spotted Snape and spoke to him but when they told him they were detaining him for a drugs search he tried to run off.

They grabbed hold of him and arrested him finding 2.9 grammes of cannabis worth £58 nearby.

Snape admitted the drugs were his and said he'd been addicted to smoking cannabis since he'd been a teenager.

Magistrates placed him on probation for nine months.
