Probation for man who tried to steal from Spar

Six-month licensing ban for Jurby man

A Jurby man has been placed on probation after admitting trying to break into a filling station in Ramsey.

Twenty-six-year-old Ryan Anthony David Langton of The Bretney appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes at Douglas Courthouse.

At an earlier hearing, he’d pleaded guilty to attempted burglary and criminal damage on 11 October at the Spar station on Parliament Square in Ramsey.

Langton tried to kick a door in and threw a wooden pallet at it, but couldn’t gain entry and took a security camera off a wall shortly before 1am.

Prosecution advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court Langton had been jailed last December for burgling a neighbour’s home – his prison sentence expired on 25 October.

The hearing was told he also had previous convictions for criminal damage and had been very drunk at the time of the latest offence.

Mrs Hughes put him on probation for two years, and imposed a six-month licensing ban which means he can’t enter on-licensed premises or purchase alcohol.

He was also ordered to pay £45 compensation to Spar and £125 towards prosecution costs.
