Board recently voted to cut membership
An election could be held in Port St Mary to find a new commissioner, despite a recent vote to cut the local authority's numbers from nine members to five.
Following the resignation of Richard Ashcroft, if two villagers request an election, and more than one person submits a nomination form, a contest must be held.
The owner of Patchwork Cafe left due to 'pressing business concerns', and has been thanked by Commissioners chair Dr Michelle Haywood, who paid tribute to his 'great contribution' on the Board.
Dr Haywood admits that electing a new member in his place could be a 'waste of time' and money, considering the vote to cut the authority's membership.
She says if the public request an election, it's likely to cost the authority around £3,500 for a member who'll only serve until 2020.
