Public invited to show support and 'Walk for ME'

Sufferers of ME in the Island and their families, carers and supporters are putting their best foot forward in Douglas today (Saturday, May 9th).

They're talking part in a sponsored stroll along the promenade, as part of a UK-wide campaign to increase awareness of the condition, and raise funds for research.

Walkers will meet at the kiosk near the Sea Terminal at 11am, with everyone taking part setting their own targets.

ME or chronic fatigue syndrome affects around 350 people in the Island, and many are unable to work or enjoy a normal active life.

Organiser Ellan Brown from Peel has cared for her mother who has ME, for the past eight years.

She says last year's Walk for ME event brought the condition out of the shadows:

The meeting point is the refreshment kiosk on the promenade walkway near the Sea Terminal.
