Public support for greener transport and climate change awareness

More than 1,000 responses submitted to consultation

Making climate change awareness part of education, offering grants or loans for electric vehicles and zero emissions buses were among the ideas receiving support in the recent climate change consultation.

The Isle of Man Government has published a summary of the 1,029 responses submitted by the public.

Responses generally showed a strong level of support for ideas that would improve quality of life without having a huge impact on lifestyle.

93% voiced support for raising awareness and initiatives to change public behaviour, with the same amount in favour of new buildings being built to a nearly zero emissions standard.

Nine out of 10 respondents were keen to see zero emission buses introduced, while 85% also support zero emissions HGVs and ferries.

More than half of those submitting responses were over 45 years old, while 96% came from individuals rather than businesses.

The full summary can be found on the government's online consultation hub.
