Put beach findings in context, dept urges

A member of the Environmental Protection Unit says this year's report from the Marine Conservation Society must be taken in context.

This year's Good Beach Guide 2010 doesn't make happy reading for the Isle of Man with just one of the 19 beaches tested, Derbyhaven, listed as safe for bathing with five failing the minimum water quality standard.

The rest received just a basic pass.

The MCS put a lot of the blame on the IRIS project not delivering the improvements expected.

However, Dr Phil Styles from the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, says he can't agree with the MCS report.
