Replaces newly-elected Tynwald President Laurence Skelly
The chief minister has taken over as the Island’s enterprise minister Laurence Skelly stepped away from the role yesterday (20 July) after being elected as President of Tynwald.
Under the Constitution Act 1990 the president cannot serve as a minister - they’re also not allowed to serve as a member of a government department or statutory board.
Howard Quayle says he chose to take over rather than appoint a new member due to Tynwald sitting this week.
He also cited the ‘imminent’ General Election which is taking place on 23 September.
