Raw materials purchased ahead of 50% jump in steel price
Work to restore Ramsey's Queen's Pier is continuing to progress despite steel prices rising further.
Bays nine and 10 were completed earlier this summer with volunteers due to turn to bays 11, 12 and 13 next year.
In 2028 the focus will 'hopefully' be bays 14, 15 and 16.
In an update the Queen's Pier Restoration Trust says it received a warning in June that steel prices were set to jump again, due to a 50 percent tariff increase, with effect from 1 July.
As a result fabricators purchased the raw materials needed for the next six bays, securing the necessary steel prior to the tariff being imposed.
They are now awaiting an appropriate window to move the scaffolding out to the next three bays so the old wood can be stripped.
A surveyor will then measure the sections and the full fabrication can be completed.
Phase two will be formally closed, and phase three officially opened, by the Lieutenant Governor, Sir John Lorimer and Lady Lorimer, on 4 October at 3pm.
