Constitution Bill will to go for Royal Assent
There are questions around the future of the Diocese of Sodor and Man after The House of Keys finished debating a Bill which will remove the Bishop's right to vote in Tynwald.
The Isle of Man Constitution Bill 2023 will now be signed by Tynwald members before receiving Royal Assent and eventually being promulgated on Tynwald Day.
Members also supported an amendment from Douglas Central's Chris Thomas to include that the House strongly supports the continuation of the Diocese of Sodor and Man - a position the Archbishop of York has previously said would be “undermined” should the vote be removed.
However, the bill's mover, Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper, believes there are 'safeguards' to prevent the Diocese being dissolved:
