Ramsey drug dealers jailed after £69K find

Police had duo under surveillance

Two drug dealers from Ramsey have been jailed after being caught in a car with £69,000 worth of heroin.

Thirty-one-year-old James William Francis Quayle, of Thornhill Close, and 26-year-old Niall Hughes, of Bircham Avenue, appeared at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

Both men pleaded guilty to possessing heroin with intent to supply and Quayle admitted possessing criminal property.

Police had the men under surveillance as they walked along the beach at Dogmills on 21 July last year.

They were arrested after retrieving a package and returning to Quayle's Audi where officers discovered a rucksack containing 276 grammes of drugs.

When they searched Quayle's home they found more than £8,000 hidden in his kitchen and garden – he told officers it was from his business Baywash on South Quay in Douglas.

The court heard the heroin had been diluted with caffeine and parecetamol and had a purity of just 26 per cent.

Describing the drug as 'nasty' and 'pernicious' Deemster Cook sent Quayle to jail for eight and a half years and jailed Hughes for five years and 10 months.
