Warning about using old fuel
Ramsey lifeboat was launched yesterday evening after a pleasure craft broke down half-a-mile from the shore due to a fuel problem.
Crews went out at around 6pm to the aid of the 18-foot Boston Whaler, which had one person on board.
Lifeboat Coxwain Mark Kenyon says: 'anyone intending to go to sea after a vessel has been unused for a long period should always ensure that fresh fuel is used.'
'Modern Petrol does not store well in cans' he says 'and quickly deteriorates if conditions are not ideal.'
'Condensation in part filled tanks can also cause engine problems should water be drawn into the fuel lines.'
