Ramsey man died from MDMA toxicity, inquest hears

Court told 47-year-old bought tablets

An inquest’s heard how a man from Ramsey bought two ecstasy tablets before attending a Liverpool nightclub’s huge finale party.

Andrew Glaister’s brother Christopher told the hearing in Merseyside the 47-year-old bought the pills from a stranger in a bar before they both went to Cream.

Liverpool coroner’s court was told the two were separated once inside and Christopher Glaister found his brother at the end of the night as he received medical help.

Haulage company owner Mr Glaister was admitted to hospital and died days later.

The court heard Detective Inspector Lee Wilkinson of Merseyside police say officers had scoured CCTV to find out where the drugs had come from but came up empty-handed.

He said the decision to buy the tablets appeared to be a “one-off”.

Cream’s medical officer John Hawley said he’d treated Mr Glaister at around 4.30am on Boxing Day morning – the 47-year-old had suffered abdominal pains and was struggling to stand.

In hospital over the following days, he suffered organ failure, pneumonia and kidney damage, and died from MDMA toxicity.

A verdict of drug-related death was recorded.
