Emissions down, bills reduced, and payback period potentially ahead of schedule
Ramsey Town Commissioners say the installation of solar panels on the Town Hall has delivered environmental and financial benefits in its first year of operation.
According to the latest performance update, the panels have saved more than 9,000 kilograms - or nine metric tonnes - of carbon dioxide emissions since becoming operational.
The figure is said to be equivalent to planting approximately 350 trees and letting them grow for a decade.
The system has also helped offset electricity costs, reducing the Town Hall’s annual energy bill by around £3,100.
At peak times, the Commissioners report they have even been able to export surplus electricity back to the national grid.
While the original payback period for the installation was estimated at seven years, updated calculations suggest the investment will now recoup its cost in roughly six and a half years - a figure which could fall further if energy prices rise.
