Ratepayers money used to make building safe

Ramsey Commissioners have sent in contractors to remove dangerous parts of a dilapidated building on Mooragh Promenade.

The local authority says it's 'highly regrettable' that ratepayers money is being spent to carry out the work on Bleak House.

In March last year Ramsey Commissioners obtained a court order against the property's owners Pygott-White Ltd requiring them to make the building safe. In November the owners were prosecuted for failing to comply with the order.

Commissioners say Bleak House has a long history of neglect and legal argument over leasehold interests - and all attempts to get the owner to deal with the building's problems have failed.

But commissioners say as public safety is now at stake, there's no other option.
