Relocating Douglas gym makes bid for mezzanine floor

Elite Fitness wants extra space for 'reasonable expansion' of members

Efforts to make a Douglas gym 'comparable' with the best fitness centres found near large urban centres of the UK are underway.

Elite Fitness will relocate from its current unit, on the Spring Valley Industrial Estate, to the nearby Jack Frost Building when the lease expires in 2024.

Planning permission has already been granted to change the use of the industrial unit into a single floor gymnasium – now further permission is being sought for a mezzanine floor.

The owners have highlighted the closure of two gyms, in short succession, and the fact they’ve raised more capital than originally anticipated as the reason behind the decision.

A second floor would allow for a 70 per cent increase in the actual gym area, allow equipment and facilities to be better spaced out and see the introduction of functional fitness and social areas.

It’s believed this would allow for ‘reasonable expansion’ of the membership base without negatively impacting on existing clientele.

Additional parking spaces have been secured from other neighbouring businesses meaning there would be 53 at all times and 83 at peak times outside normal business hours.

The application for the mezzanine is pending consideration - you can find out more HERE.
