53-year-old appears at Douglas Courthouse
A Liverpool man who has been accused of manslaughter has been remanded at the Isle of Man Prison.
John Meadows, of Verney Crescent in Allerton, appeared at Douglas Courthouse this morning (1 April).
The 53-year-old has been charged with causing the death of his partner on Friday evening (29 March).
Jillian Hughes, who was 57-years-old and from Merseyside, died at Noble’s Hospital after an altercation outside the Best Western Palace Hotel and Casino, on Central Promenade, in Douglas.
Mr Meadows is accused of punching her in the face during an argument between family members.
The court was told the woman was transported to hospital in a critical condition but was pronounced dead just before 10.30pm.
Mr Meadows appeared from police custody wearing a black suit, white shirt and yellow tie.
There was no application for bail and he was remanded until his next court appearance on 9 April.
Committal proceedings - where the case is elevated to the Court of General Gaol Delivery - will take place on 28 May.
