22-year-old charged with GBH
A Douglas man has been remanded at the Isle of Man Prison after being accused of fracturing another man’s skull.
Matthew James Woods, of Saddle Road, appeared at Douglas Courthouse today (28 March) charged with grievous bodily harm.
The 22-year-old allegedly punched another man, at 2.40am on Saturday morning, on Victoria Street in the capital.
The court was told the man fell and hit his head on the ground suffering a ‘traumatic head injury’.
Prosecutor Barry Swain described it as an ‘extremely serious allegation’ which could have a ‘devastating result for the complainant’.
The man is in a critical condition, on a specialist neurological ward, in hospital – Manx Radio understands this is a hospital in the United Kingdom.
An application for bail was refused and Mr Woods will next appear in court on 4 April.
Police closed the road on Saturday whilst investigations were carried out - they’ve thanked members of the public who assisted.
