Service to take place in St John's marking 68th anniversary
The UK's worst high ground aviation accident will be remembered at an informal service in St John's on Friday (27 February).
Thirty-five Manx residents lost their lives when their plane crashed onto the snow-covered slopes of Winter Hill, near Horwich in Lancashire on the 27 February 1958.
The service to mark the 68th anniversary of the disaster is organised by the Rotary Club of Douglas.
It marks a tragic event that touched many local families. Of the 42 people aboard the aircraft only seven survived.
Ties have remained strong between the Isle of Man and the people of Horwich, who did so much to help in the rescue of survivors and provide comfort and support to those who lost loved ones.
Thanks will be given to them - and in particular the Rotary Club of Horwich - at Friday's gathering.
The service on Friday at Cooil y Ree Park is open to all, and refreshments will be served afterwards in Green's Cafe.
