Renal unit open day in Ramsey

Visitors offered kidney care advice

There's a chance to find out more about services offered to kidney patients in the north of the Island today (9 July).

The renal unit at Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital will open its doors to the public from 3pm.

Visitors will be invited to view the equipment used for kidney dialysis, and ask staff about their work.

Today's event marks the third anniversary of the opening of the unit, which has been part-funded by the Eric and Marion Scott Trust.

Patients whose kidneys no longer function properly need four hour sessions connected to a dialysis machine, at least three times a week.

Many are facing a wait of up to three years for a kidney transplant.

Health staff at the Ramsey facility say they hope to raise awareness of good kidney care - through diet, exercise and lifestyle.
