Rent hike goes against views of many local authorities says commissioner

An Onchan commissioner says he’s disgusted at plans to raise public sector housing rents by five per cent from next April.

Health and Social Care chiefs yesterday (Friday) announced the hike, saying public sector housing around the Island required significant investment.

It will lead to an average increase of around £16 a month for tenants.

Rob Callister, who earlier this year called for a zero per cent rise, says the views of many local authorities and tenants have been ignored.

And he believes by next April, more than £3 million will have been transferred from government onto local authorities.
