Report into training exercise at airport won't be made public

DoI says it's 'security sensitive'

Details of a training exercise which saw the Isle of Man Airport close in November will not be made public.

The Department of Infrastructure says releasing the report could prejudice the Island’s capability and effectiveness in regard to national security.

The airport was closed for three hours on 27 November whilst a post-crash simulation scenario was staged – the exercise was done to fulfil licensing requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority.

A Freedom of Information request which asked for a ‘full and final’ report has been blocked by the DoI which says it’s ‘security sensitive’ and will be distributed internally only.

Weighing up disclosure the department said whilst publishing it would reassure the public that effective security measures are in place the information could be used in the planning of a terrorist incident.
