Douglas Corporation hopes a residents' association can be formed to give tenants an input into the replacement of 26 houses on the Upper Pulrose estate, at a cost of £12 million.

Demolition is expected to start before the end of the month, after health and safety officers have carried out checks on each of the properties.

Chairman of the Corporation's Health and Housing Committee Doreen Kinrade (pictured) sympathises with residents of the area, who have seen the local authority houses empty and boarded-up for some time.

However, she hopes they will have a say in how the rebuilt estate looks:
