'Return the Peggy to its rightful home' says Brown

Former MNH vice-chair calls for schooner to be returned to Castletown

A former senior member of Manx National Heritage is calling on the organisation to return a famous schooner to 'its rightful home'.

The Peggy was removed from the Nautical Museum in Castletown five years ago for conservation work and hasn't been returned since.

Tony Brown, who has previously served as vice-chair of MNH, has strongly criticised those in charge for their handling of the matter.

Edmund Southworth, director of MNH when the Peggy was removed in 2015, says it was taken out of Castletown due to damage being caused by salt water.

Commenting before he left the role, Mr Southworth said it was "soul-destroying to see a museum exhibit at such risk."

Mr Brown says there appears to be no arrangements in place to put the famous boat back where it belongs:
