Role of HM Attorney General

The Isle of Man's Attorney General believes his independence marks a distinct difference between his role and that of his counterpart in the United Kingdom

John Corlett says the role in the UK is a political appointment, and it could therefore be said that the AG's legal advice to Parliament is greatly coloured by his membership of the Cabinet

Mr Corlett cites controversial aspects of Lord Goldsmith's role in relation to possible prosecutions in the cash for honours investigation as an example.

He claims that although he's a member of Tynwald, he's appointed by the Queen and is independent:
