Russian residents 'getting abuse' due to ongoing Ukraine conflict

Police say both communities are 'integral' to Manx life

Police on the Isle of Man say Russian residents here have been 'getting abuse' due to the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

Officers say members of both the Russian and Ukrainian communities are an 'integral part' of the Manx community.

Today they've taken to social media to share messages of support for people from both countries who now call the Isle of Man home.

Two posts – one translated into Ukrainian and one translated into Russian – have been shared advising people that officers are there to help them if they receive any backlash.

Officers say they've had feedback that people have been abused and this is 'clearly because of the current situation'.

In posts on Facebook they say they want people to feel safe on the Isle of Man and have asked people to reach out if they need assistance.

Anyone who needs help is asked to contact Police Headquarters on 631212 or by emailing police@gov.im.

The translations on the posts were overseen by Ukrainian and Russian speakers within the force however officers have said Facebook translation is 'less than accurate' and the original messages are correct.
