Tribute to lives lost through suicide
A special sunset ceremony was staged in Douglas last night in which 40 pairs of shoes were laid out.
They marked the 40th anniversary of the Isle of Man Samaritans - and the fact that depression is the most common cause of suicide, often accompanied by trauma, loss and other personal issues.
Globally, it’s estimated that 800,000 people each year take their own lives through suicide.
To get in touch with the Samaritans on the Island, you can call 116123 or e-mail jo@samaritans.org any time, day or night
Branch Director for IOM Samaritans, Gary Leeming, said the ceremony had a special significance following yesterday's devastating weather event in Laxey:
'Targeted and intelligence led approach' to protect Island's borders during Irish sailings
Airport Director role advertised with top salary of £120,000
Traders on Michael Street feel 'abandoned' by politicians in tough times
Isle of Man economy contracts for second year
