Scam text alert

Messages claim to come from BT

Police on the Island say they've been made aware of fake text messages claiming to be from BT being sent to Manx Telecom mobile numbers.

They say they've spoken to BT who have confirmed the texts are not being sent from them, and advise anyone receiving them to not use the links within the text, as you could risk your personal data being stolen.

Anyone who receives such texts is advised to delete them.

Officers say if you are ever unsure about a text received claiming to be from a reputable business, don't click on any links within the text, don't call the number the text came from and don't provide any personal details.

Either delete the text or call that business on their recognised number and question its validity.
