Schools to share review comments with parents

Five schools are sharing the comments from an external validation of their School Self Review and Evaluation (SSRE) with parents.

There are four primaries - Andreas, Arbory, Ballaugh and the Bunscoill Ghaelgagh -and Ballakermeen High School.

Andreas Primary School rated itself as 'satisfactory' for achievement against prior attainment, and teaching and learning, which the validation team agreed with, adding the school was in a strong position to improve further.

Arbory was generally rated good, and the school knows itself quite well, although the validation team said this was not reflected in the SSRE, which does not provide sound evidence that supports and illustrates judgements.

The verdict on Ballaugh was the school knows itself quite well, and produced a comprehensive SSRE document, but greater attention is needed to ensure all judgements are based on, and supported by, sound evidence.

The Bunscoill knows itself well, according to the validation team, but its approach to self-evaluation would do fuller justice to its unique status and many considerable achievements if it were more systematic.

Ballakermeen students' achievements at GCSE and A-Level are considered a 'significant strength', adding the school knows itself very well and is in a very good position to improve further.
