Sefton bailout set to dominate Keys

Questions about the government’s £4.5 million bailout of the Sefton Group look set to dominate the House of Keys when it sits later.

Liberal Vannin Party Leader Peter Karran will table a question of urgent public importance on the issue to Chief Minister Allan Bell.

Mr Karran wants the chief minister to make a statement on his reasons for the loan and land deal.

His question comes on the day Tynwald members receive a presentation from the Sefton Group’s chairman Sir Miles Walker and chief executive Brett Martin.

During Keys questions, Rushen MHK Laurence Skelly will quiz Social Care Minster Chris Robertshaw on his plans for a joint equity homebuying scheme.

Meanwhile, North Douglas MHK John Houghton will ask Economic Development Minister John Shimmin about his department’s marketing of the Island as a venue for conferences.

In the Legislative Council, members will debate legislation governing sunbeds and flood risk management.

You can hear live coverage of Keys questions on Manx Radio’s AM1368 frequency, and online at manxradio.com, from 10am this morning.
