Sefton deal dominates Keys

Senior ministers will face more questions about the government’s bailout of the Sefton Group tomorrow (Tuesday).

There are a total of 12 questions for oral answer on the subject. This follows an hour of fierce debate during last Tuesday’s Keys sitting.

Leading the charge when MHKs meet will be Michael member Alf Cannan and Onchan MHK David Quirk – who have five questions each.

Middle MHK Howard Quayle has another two queries about the deal which saw £4.5 million of government support for the hotel and construction group in a land and loan deal.

Mr Cannan will quiz the Chief Minister and Treasury Minister about other requests for assistance, whether anyone’s offered to buy parts of the firm, legal action over mismanagement and another £450,000 loan made a year ago.

Mr Quirk, meanwhile, wants to know how much tax and National Insurance the group owes and how much the group is actually worth.

And both Infrastructure Minister David Cretney and Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw will face questions about conflicts of interest over the deal.

You can hear live coverage of Keys questions on Manx Radio’s AM1368 frequency from 10am on Tuesday.
