An electrical fault has been blamed for the blaze
Several people have been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after a house fire in Douglas.
Three appliances were called to the property in Cronk-y-Berry at around 2 o'clock this morning, as John Moss reports:
The fire had started on the ground floor of the house, with the floors above becoming smoke logged.
Eleven people were able to escape, with several receiving treatment on the scene before being taken to Noble's for precautionary checks due to smoke inhalation.
The fire service says it's suspects an electrical fault was the cause of the fire, and is urging people to follow its electrical safety tips to reduce the risk of others occurring.
These include:
- Don’t overload plug sockets
- Regularly check for frayed or worn cables and wires
- Keep electrical appliances in clean and good working order
- Check for British or European safety mark
- Always check that you use the right fuse to prevent overloading
- Don’t leave electrical devices such as mobile phones charging on soft materials such as beds
