Shark Trust looking for data

Beachcombers in the Isle of Man have the chance to contribute to important research, being carried out by the United Kingdom's Shark Trust this weekend.

Volunteers all over the country are being urged to look for the egg cases of sharks, rays and skate - known as mermaid's purses - and pass on the information to the organisation.

The trust is concerned about declining numbers of some species and says the cases provide important data about nursery grounds.

The Isle of Man isn't directly involved in beachcoming weekend, but education officer for the Manx Wildlife Trust, Cath Smith, says the Shark Trust would be delighted to hear from anybody who gets involved (audio file attached):

The Manx Wildlife Trust will be holding tide-pooling sessions during the summer holidays, the first of which will be at Niarbyl this coming Friday, August 1.
