Shoplifter pleads guilty to stealing from Boots

51-year-old caught on CCTV taking cosmetics

A court's heard a shoplifter banned from a town centre shop in Douglas went in and stole hair clips and hand cream.

Fifty-one-year-old Christine Ann Metaxas of Waverley Terrace in Ramsey appeared before magistrates at Douglas courthouse.

She pleaded guilty to a single charge of theft at Boots in Strand Street on 12 April.

Workers reviewed CCTV, which captured her taking cosmetics and other items worth £25.99.

They called police, and when officers went to her home she admitted taking the items, saying she’d paid for other items she’d picked up and needed the ones she'd stolen.

Magistrates heard Metaxas had 15 previous convictions for shoplifting and struggled with alcohol abuse, but hadn’t been convicted for two years.

She was placed under the supervision of the probation service for a year, and magistrates ordered her to pay £50 towards prosecution costs and £25.99 compensation to Boots.
