Single footpath agency would be more effective for upkeep says petitioner 

Man who sparked focus on rights of way ‘disappointed but not surprised’ over time it’s taking  

A campaigner says he would like to see a single agency dedicated to working on footpaths as opposed to the Department of Infrastructure as it's 'responsible for a load of disasters'. 

That’s the view of David ‘Butch’ Buttery – in 2021 he handed over a petition to Tynwald calling for an investigation into maintenance of public rights of way.

A committee was subsequently set up which instructed the DoI to update the Island's definitive map - something Minister Chris Thomas says would take decades.

Mr Buttery says the department is too big and spends time focusing on the business of the department instead of the business of its function:
