Small islands will 'disappear' if climate issues aren't tackled says UK MP

CPA conference hosted on IOM focusing on 'impactful scrutiny'

Delegates from around the world have travelled to the Island for the 51st Commonwealth Parliamentary Association British Islands and Mediterranean Region conference.

Topics on the agenda include scrutiny of parliamentary systems as well as how to make a collective effort in tackling climate change.

The Commonwealth is comprised of 54 countries, 180 parliaments, 17,500 parliamentarians of which 2.4 billion people call these regions home.

The conference has been running for 110 years which in turn makes it one of the longest serving non-government bodies in the world.

It's an opportunity for parliamentarians to share learned experiences - one of those attending is UK MP Ian Liddel-Grainger:

But what are the key objectives for the CPA conference and how will they action proposed changes?

Climate change is a topic that's never far from public debate - the conference does focus on how best to make collective efforts in tackling climate issues, but to what extent is the issue and how pressing is it to act now?
