Small rise in jobless total for August

It went up by 11 in July

The number of people out of work in the Island increased slightly in August.

The figure stood at 313, which is eleven more than in July, but 82 fewer than the same period last year. 

Meanwhile the number of vacancies at the Job Centre stood at 859 - twenty fewer than the month before.

The jobless total represents 0.7 per cent of the economically active population.

Of those looking for work, the majority were males at 61 percent.

The sectors with the highest number of job vacancies included catering and entertainment with 208, Medical Health Services with 177 and retail distribution with 89.

The majority of job vacancies are in the East of the Island, which takes in Douglas.

The region also has the highest number of people out of work.
