Smart meter roll out to start in June

Manx Utilities to begin installations in north

The roll-out of Manx Utilities smart meters is to start in the north of the Island, where eight thousand are due to be installed.

It's expected to begin in June, with around fifty-thousand units to be put in Island-wide, over the next four years.

We are told the wireless network needed has been commissioned and the first fifteen-thousand meters have been made.

The idea is to replace the now 'old fashioned' meters which have to be read by a meter reader.

Overall it should cut waste and promote effiency.

That would tie in to the use of air source heat pumps, where a limited trial of those is underway, and forty pumps have already been installed.

Their performance and user satisfaction is being carefully monitored.

In the next few weeks, a mail drop will tell people and businesses about smart meters, their use and their benefits.
