The biggest challenge facing the Isle of Man DHSS is to improve services while managing the funds available to it more effectively.
That's according to the Deputy Director of Social Services, David Gibson, who says resources are obviously limited, which means new ways of improving the service need to be found.
The department has had a difficult couple of years, with the childcare inquiry and budgetary overspends.
To combat the second of these problems, Mr Gibson (pictured) says he would also like to see more community involvement, which could supplement the work done by Social Services:
More services to be temporarily relocated from Ramsey and District Cottage Hospital
Isle of Man population edges upward to 84,975 as migration drives growth
