1,200 panels can now be installed

Solar panels have been given the green light to be installed on the roof of the National Sports Centre.

The plans, submitted by Manx Utilities, see 1,200 panels (735kW) approved for the main building of the Douglas site.

In approving the application, the officers report says 'the proposed solar panels will not be seen from a public vantage point whilst in the surrounding area.'

Meanwhile, the MUA says: "The project supports commitments previously outlined by the Manx Utilities Chair in Tynwald and contributes to the Island Plan objective of increasing local renewable energy generation.

In January, Chair John Wannenburgh said the authority was exploring other schemes, such as the potential for solar panels floating on the surface of Sulby reservoir - see HERE.
