Solway Harvester to be scrapped

The final chapter in the Solway Harvester tragedy will begin this morning (Monday).

Nearly 14 years after the vessel sank in Manx waters with the loss of its seven crew, she is to be demolished.

Infrastructure chiefs say the work will be carried out swiftly and sensitively by the Laxey Towing Company.

The ship will be broken up and disposed of by Christmas.

Advocates acting for the families of the crew are being kept informed.

The Manx government paid £1 million to raise the vessel and recover the bodies in 2000 and the ship has been long sited in Douglas Harbour while legal proceedings were ongoing.
