Spar promises full service at new sub post offices

 

The company which has been awarded the contract to offer post office services in the centre of Douglas and Ramsey says it has the space to offer the public all the services they need.

Two new sub post offices are due to open in Spar stores in the high streets of both towns, early in the new year.

Isle of Man Post Office this week announced it would close its loss-making Regent Street and Parliament Street main offices, currently running at a deficit of half a million pounds. 

The organisation's stressing it is committed to maintaining its retail network and converting the two branches to sub post offices within Spar shops will ensure the public is served as before. 

Peter Whittacker is managing director of Mannin Retail, the company which operates the Spar chain in the Island.

He says up to two thirds of the floor areas on the Spar shops will be devoted to the new venture:
