Operator progressing plans for new ship to join fleet in 2030
The Steam Packet Company wants to hear from the public as it progresses plans for its next ship, due to join its fleet in 2030.
The operator has launched a public consultation seeking views on weighing what it calls the necessary trade-offs of speed, comfort, all-weather reliability and onboard amenities.
It says it's exploring options for a next-generation vessel capable of providing a dependable, reliable and affordable service, with a particular focus on future connectivity to Liverpool.
The government-owned organisation previously stated it expects to spend up to £120million on a replacement for the Manannan, funded by the group's profits and additional debt at zero cost to the taxpayer.
Its online survey is open to all Isle of Man residents and customers who use Steam Packet services.
Managing Director Brian Thomson said: "Fleet renewal is about investing for the future of the Island. This consultation is an important input to our decision-making process and ensures we consider the desires of our customers who rely on our services. Of course, these desires are in addition to our focus on the critical mission to ensure long-term reliability, year-round connectivity, sustainability and a modern fleet that supports the Island’s future needs.”
The consultation has opened HERE today, and remains open for two weeks.
