A meeting at Douglas town hall today will decide whether a special sitting of the borough council should be called to discuss the local authority's contribution to the Bowl refurbishment.
The Policy and Resources Committee is expected to commit an additional £200,000 of rate payers' money, because up to now it has been council policy to support the £3.7 million scheme.
If that happens the special meeting will be arranged, and with the council pretty much evenly split on whether to retain its support, the vote could go either way.
Council leader David Christian says money is going to be tight for the foreseeable future, and the agreed £1.7 million contribution can no longer be justified:
Reducing hospitality VAT would 'directly affect' provision of frontline services
No conversations with UK over a reduction in VAT rates for hospitality businesses planned
