Statue targeted by vandals

Vandals have torn down the centrepiece of a tranquil public garden in the heart of Douglas.

A bronze statue of a Greek athlete was uprooted from its plinth in the rose garden in Glen Falcon Road, and dragged onto a path. Repairs will cost at least £2,000.

It happened sometime between last Thursday evening and Friday morning .

Police want to trace anyone with information about a large group of youths seen drinking in the garden on Thursday night.

Charge hand with Douglas Corporation's public squares team Graham Hamilton found the vandalised statue in a very poor condition (play audio file):

The numbers to ring with information are 631212 for Police Headquarters or 0800 555 111 for the anonymous Crimestoppers line.
