SSEN says Arrow will handle construction materials and project freight
The Steam Packet's dedicated freight vessel Arrow has been acquired on charter by construction company Balfour Beatty
The vessel will provide logistics support for Scottish and Southern Electricity Network's Lewis Hub and Western Isles High Voltage Direct Current Link project.
SSEN says Arrow will handle construction materials and project freight ensuring no disruption to existing public ferry operations.
Under the terms of the deal a release mechanism will enable the vessel to be used by others when not required for project delivery, boosting resilience across the Scottish Islands' essential ferry network.
The MV Arrow was bought by the Steam Packet for 9 million euros in 2022 and it's currently operating out of Portsmouth running services to Jersey for ferry firm DFDS, as part of a 12 month charter deal.
Arrow was built in Spain in 1998.
