Steam Packet should not be run 'at whims of certain politicians' says minister

Ten questions tabled for Tynwald today

It is not government’s responsibility to step into ongoing negotiations between unions and the Steam Packet Company.

That’s from the treasury minister who says there is a ‘clear demarcation’ between the ‘private company’ which is owned by government.

Ten questions relating to the Steam Packet’s operations will be raised on the floor of Tynwald today (17 October).

Alex Allinson will be asked in Tynwald today whether his department would support the company adopting a ‘fire and rehire’ approach to staff terms and conditions.

He's told Manx Radio the Steam Packet is responsible for its own terms and conditions:

Today’s Tynwald sitting will start at 10am – you can listen live via DAB, AM 1368 or at Manxradio.com.

You can find a full question paper for today's sitting HERE

The ongoing dispute between the union Nautilus and the Steam Packet Company is focussed on proposed changes to live onboard arrangements
