Gusts up to 75mph expected on Saturday

A yellow weather warning has been issued as Storm Dave is expected to bring severe gales across the Island this weekend (4-5 April).

The Ronaldsway Met Office says the strong southerly wind will gradually increase to gale force across the Island tomorrow afternoon, before veering southwest and increasing to severe gale force during the evening with gusts widely 60-70mph.

There's a small risk of gusts up to 75mph in exposed locations.

The weather warning will come into force at 7pm on Saturday and stay in place until 1am on Sunday.

While the whole of the Island will be affected, the Met Office says the north may experience the gustiest conditions due to the position of the storm.

The wind will gradually decrease and veer westerly from around midnight, becoming a fresh to strong westerly by Sunday morning.

A number of sailings tomorrow are in doubt due to the forecast adverse weather conditions.

The daytime and evening Heysham sailings as well as the afternoon Liverpool crossings are subject to possible disruption or cancellation.
