Strike announcement would be next week

The assistant secretary of the Communication Workers Union believes he and his colleagues are talking to the wrong people, in the ongoing pay dispute.

Terry Pullinger was commenting after a union meeting yesterday (Sunday) didn't set a firm date for any possible strike action.

Instead, members decided they would leave it as long as possible under legal time constraints before validating the results of their secret ballot, which showed overwhelming support for such a move.

The CWU must give seven days' notice of any possible industrial action, within 28 days of the result of the ballot, meaning an announcement would have to be made in the early part of the week beginning April 4.
